Harry Bennett and Henry Ford

Historic Beginnings

Lost Lake Conservation Club dates back to 1930 when the property was purchased by Harry Bennett, transforming it into a fortified retreat. As a powerful executive at Ford Motor Company and close associate of Henry Ford, Bennett used the property as a personal escape from the tensions of Detroit and his role in managing labor relations. The estate featured extensive security measures and became emblematic of his influence and authority within the Ford inner circle. He later sold the property in 1945 to a private owner, marking the end of his direct ties to the Lake, Michigan retreat.

Time as a Scout Camp

The Boy Scouts of America later acquired the Lake, Michigan property in 1964, repurposing it as a scout camp that served youth from across the region. For decades, it operated as an outdoor leadership and recreation site, hosting camping programs, merit badge activities, and summer camps. The organization closed the camp in 2012.

Lost Lake as You Know it Today

Today Lost Lake is privately owned and operated by four families under Lost Lake Conservation Club. After it's purchase in 2021 the property was brought back to life and currently operates as a wedding venue and vacation destination. With 19 cabins and over 20 campsites coming soon, Lost Lake has so much to offer. While maintaining its historic and rustic charm, we have aimed to create a private and welcoming experience for our guests to unwind and celebrate.
